The owl fabric was a Alexander Henry cotton print that I found on the cheap in the L.A. Fashion District. I wanted to make a big ol' beach bag for my Grandma. I found the scrimshaw buttons there also, which I think added more vintage flair.

I lined the inside with a durable stripped canvas from JoAnn's, where I also picked up all the coordinating green piping. The shape of the bag, and the construction was based on a disassembled paper grocery sack. Since it was lined, I basically made two bags: an inside out canvas for the lining and wrapped it in an own and canvas for the outside. I added a set of inside pockets and one on the outside. the entire thing was seemed with my machines smallest and tightest zig-zag for strength and to matching the piping detail. Between the two bottom layers I added a heavy iron-on stabilizer to make it more sturdy.

It turned out so nicely that Lola decided to nap in it after modeling next to it.
