This is the kind of movie I love. It really tries to be something new and it fails in so many ways. It is unapologetic in its belief in itself. It is successful at creating the creepy and arty atmosphere. Like Romero's other works, it is a thinly veiled critique of American consumerism, suburban life, and the dehumanization of society. Romero battled producers who wanted to amp up the sex and camp to near pornographic levels. The result is a weird and uncomfortable view of the early 70s.
